Mission and Vision

Mission

Big Little Books is a registered non-profit that wants to inspire a new generation of young Ontario readers in this current age of social media. Through friendly tournaments and thought-provoking workshops, we hope to increase youth engagement with literacy by creating memorable moments with their fellow peers. Working with schools and libraries across Ontario, we hope to support underserved communities and their youth.

Our motto, “Empowering the youth for a brighter future, one book at a time”, indicates how we hope that the knowledge and skills learned through Big Little Books directly translate to benefit the lives of Ontario youth.

Literacy skills directly impact an individuals health and success.

Approximately 48% of Canadians from 16–65 years fail to achieve Level 3 proficiency. Level 3 proficiency is defined as the literacy skills required to complete high school in Canada. That’s why at Big Little Books, we aim to nurture and encourage such skills in youth—we want to target the literacy rate early to build a strong foundation for kids to develop their literacy skills and more.
